After 56 years, artist Beverly “Bev” Parson White returned to the Annual Lakewood Art Show at the Lakewood Branch Library, entering two oil landscape paintings.
White entered the art show during its inaugural opening in 1962 when the Lakewood Branch Library was located at 6343 La Vista, now known as the Diener Mills building. At that time, there was no minimum entry age, so White, a middle school student who loved spending hours in her grandmother’s Lakewood art studio, qualified to enter the show. She recalls that the piece was a self-portrait. From the age of seven years old to the present, creating art has been an integral part of White’s life. She earned a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of North Texas, has her work displayed in local galleries, and has taught painting classes. Currently she paints mostly commissioned murals, and portraits of people and pets.
The timing of this year’s Lakewood Art Show worked for White because she had pieces available to enter. She has entered numerous juried and non-juried shows, and was impressed by the range of work in the Lakewood Show.
She enjoyed the artists’ reception, along with the warm welcome of the Lakewood Library Friends and the library staff. For more information about Beverly Parson White and her work, visit: https://www.beverlyparsonwhitestudios.com.
